We never intended to adopt two old Golden Retrievers when we tuned into the NorCal web site in February. "Just Browsing", we said!! But then we read about Yogi Bear, a ten-year-old, and Maureen, seven, whose owner had recently died and who needed to be placed together and we were hooked.
They accepted our offer of a place in the country and we're thrilled to have their company. We worried about adopting an old dog, since we'd just lost our wonderful Scooter in January but when we met Yogi, we fell in love. He is a beautiful big red boy who crosses his front feet when he dozes. Maureen is a blond who is ball-obsessed to the point of needing therapy. Both dogs go for a short walk with Marty every morning then Yogi comes in for a nap while Maureen and Marty continue their hike. They love to be brushed and told they're beautiful/handsome. Yogi follows Marty, Maureen follows Yogi, and Mary picks up after them all!

We urge readers to consider the joys of adopting older dogs. Maureen and Yogi don't chew books or telephone cords, make spots on the carpet, are quick to figure out the house rules, and add developed personalities to the mix in our house --we also have two cats, who still haven't forgiven us for bringing two strangers home. We are aware every day that we might not have Yogi Bear around for long and that just makes each moment more precious. Thanks, NorCal, for a match made in heaven!
