When we met it was love at first sight.
She came to our home the day before Easter, 1996.
We were devastated by the death of our 15 1/2 year old Golden,
Jenner, in February 1996. We had raised her since puppyhood. We decided that
we were at a time in our lives when the best option was offering a loving
home to a Golden in need.
While surfing the Web, I was delighted to see your Website. We contacted Norcal
Golden retriever Rescue. Within a matter of days, we were connected to a breeder
who had a young female who filled all our criteria.
Maggie, or Mags was bred and raised for the show ring, and while she has all
the right looks, she did not have the show dog attitude. She had never been
indoors, nor seen stairs, nor heard all the noises of a busy household. Clearly,
she did not know "how to be a dog". Her period of adjustment was
short as she is an intelligent and anxious-to-please girl. She quickly became
the new "best friend" of an 18 pound Maine Coon Cat. Her bubbly
personality continues to blossom, and she is an enthusiastic walker and hiker.
During the work-week Mags is actively involved with her job as an "assistant
manager" at a retirement community in Oakland; she spends her time bringing
smiles and hugs to residents and families. She also attends Vista College
in Berkeley as a "teacher's aide", and what a good job she does
reducing the stress of the students.
The unconditional love and joy Maggie has brought to our lives has been consistent;
we are truly blessed! We continue to be grateful to the wonderful work of
all the folks at Norcal. Keep it up!
Thanks again...
Maggie
