Libby

WE LOVE LIBBY!!!  We adopted Libby, on May 5, 1999.  Although we have only had her for a short time, she has already captured our hearts, and we all adore her.

Our two sons had been asking to get a dog, specifically a golden retriever, for almost a year.  Last summer we discussed it as a family, and decided that we would get a dog in the summer of 1999.  As the summer was approaching, my boys kept reminding me that we were going to get a dog this summer.

Three friends of mine had told me about the Golden Retriever Rescue, but I didn't pay much attention because we thought we wanted a puppy.  In April, a fourth friend sent me a flyer about the GRR.  This time we looked them up at their web address, and after reading about all the goldens that needed loving homes, we were hooked.

We sent in our application, and then worked with the Santa Clara County agent to help us find our dream dog.  She was fostering Libby at the time, and she thought that Libby would be a good match for us.

Libby is two-and-a-half years old, and she is the perfect mix between playful puppy and canine citizen. Libby and the boys hit it off immediately playing several games of fetch with Libby’s tennis balls.  We knew instantly that we wanted Libby for our own.  It was decided that Libby would come for a visit to our home the next evening to see how she would get along with our cat, Max.

Max stood his ground when Libby came for her visit, so we knew that it would all work out.  Libby continually tries to make friends with Max by lying as close to him as he will allow.  Max, on the other hand, is not rolling out the red carpet for Libby.  But, he does seem to be tolerating her a little bit more each day.

Libby had been through puppy obedience classes with her previous owners, so she knew most of the basic commands when we adopted her.  However, I signed her up for an obedience class so that I could train myself how to train her.  She passed her class with flying colors and performed her new tricks of “roll over” and  “shake” very nicely for graduation.  Libby is now enrolled in an intermediate class.  She is a very quick learner, and we continue to enjoy training together.

Libby loves going on daily walks, playtime with the boys, chasing tennis balls, playing catch, and especially playing Frisbee.  She gets a lot of love and attention from every member of the family.  She really is a dream come true for us.  Thank you Norcal for helping us to find our very special Libby!
