A Happy Addition to the Family

Jake playing in the front yard.

by Judi, Fred & Matthew Mouser

We picked up Jake from his surrender owner, and haven't stopped laughing since! He is a happy boy, who wants to play with everyone. We survived our basic obedience class (Jake even graduated).

He joins us daily on our 3 miles around the track, although Jake gets us off our pace when the birds start flying by, or the sprinklers come on. Jake loves chasing the squirrels in the back yard, car rides to anywhere, going to LA to play with my sister's adopted golden, listening while I practice the piano, throwing his Kong toy around, ripping up just about everything, and hiding toys under the couch.

He's learned-crate training, basic obedience, jingling keys mean car rides, balls pop when you bite too hard, "bath time" means jump in the tub, ear medicine is OK because cookies follow, the vets are nice ladies with more cookies, other dogs are to play with but cats don't always like to play, fish won't jump out of the tank no matter how long you wait, birds on the stereo don't come out, anything around must be a chew toy, don't mess with the computers, and you will get picked up when you are kenneled.

We've learned how to laugh more, that dog hair everywhere is not the end of the world, not to buy blue couches when you have a red golden, ruffles on the bottom of the couch are NOT a good idea, you really do have to shut the door to the garbage, socks are really chew toys in disguise, and that 9 PM is bedtime for dogs (just like toddlers).

The picture above is Jake playing in our front yard. We toss the Kong toy around in the evening out front, he runs around in circles all over the lawn like a crazy person.

We love him like you wouldn't believe, and can't imagine how quiet and empty our lives would be without him. I've even brought up the idea of adopting a playmate for him, but the hubby hasn't risen to the challenge. Yet.

My youngest , 16, will be leaving home at the end of the summer. He says " I can't believe I've been replaced by a dog." That about sums it up.

Thank you !
