FrostyThe classic Golden face - and heart.

Maggie & Sampson and Mouse the cat

We'll never know Frosty's start in life, or her real name. Was she a happy puppy, well loved and fed or was her last 12+ years misery?  Fortunately for me, I will never know. I'd like to think it was at least pleasant.

Staying warm at home and looking quite seasonal too!Frosty was found by the side of the road in a ditch on a deserted road before Christmas of 1998. She had been shot in the head and left for dead. It is surmised that her owner drove her out there and attempted Euthanasia himself, but botched the job. Fortunately for Frosty, a passerby came to her aid and Animal Control officers took her to the emergency hospital for care. Obviously her care had been neglected prior to the attempt to end her life from the condition in which she was found. The bullet missed her brain but went thru her ear and ear canal a into her jaw, paralyzing the left side of her face. She has trouble with moving that eye, or opening her mouth fully. That in addition to bald spots on her fur from chewing, a foul odor of her skin from chronic allergies or fleas, a heart murmer, a lung tumor, and a large growth hanging off her hind leg, and cataracts among other ailments.

When the paper came out with her picture with a stuffed teddy bear under her chin, the response was overwhelming. Over 250 people came or called wanting to adopt or help her. Because of this, the Animal Regulation Department turned the matter over to NorCal and Myra Kelley. Myra wanted her out of the shelter right away but had to wait a few days to get her. She was taken to the groomers, then my place. This is where her new life and story begins.

Frosty in her happy new homeAll I will tell you now is that I love her more each day, knowing our time is limited. She grew on me from day 1, and I marvel at her daily. She and my other two goldens Maggie and Sam (also a rescue from Norcal) get along wonderfuly. Frosty loves their company and they treat her with the respect that a dog her age deserves. She needs more TLC than the others due to medical conditions but she fit into the family as if she has always been there. My only regret is that the person who hurt her has never was located. I had things to say to him and questions to ask.  To look at her today, you see an old greyface with a 'frozen" tail swinging proudly as she trots along side my other guys when they play. She doesn't have their stamina but playbows & manuvers with the best of them. Shes my gal and I am proud to be her new Mom!

I love you Frosty and am glad you are sharing our life.
