Emily & Milo Kicking Back

The first time we saw Emily was on the NorCal Golden Rescue website. We had been thinking about adopting another dog as a companion for our one year old Golden, Milo. We thought Emily would be a good fit for all of us based on her description. She sure looked pretty and had a loving glint in her eye.

We visited Emily to find she had been neglected physically and emotionally and was in need of love. Her foster parents had done what they could to provide as much love as possible, but Emily was ready to move on. Emily's coat had been shaven and was very short, with lots of hot-spots, so she really was in need of some healthy living and nutrition.

We saw, though, that Milo and Emily had a great rapport and were happily jumping and playing non-stop, so we thought it would be a good fit for all of us.

We took her home and she hid in the back seat's footwell the entire ride. The scared little Emily, barely 50lbs, carefully hunted around the house for hints of familiarity, of which there were none. Luckily, she had Milo and us to take her mind off the uneasy feeling she felt. That first night, Emily woke us up almost every hour, just coming to the side of the bed for comfort and settling down once it was given.

Emily has been a part of our family for a year now and we have seen her blossom in every way. She has gained 15 lbs and her fur has grown in quite nicely. We found she might not be a golden? she might be more of a Chesapeake, as her fur is dark red and very curly. Now, when Emily rides in the car, she confidently pokes her face out the side window to catch all the smells and sights the world has to offer. She has learned to sit and shake and always comes when called. At bedtime, Emily settles down on her new bed next to her daddy and sleeps the whole night through knowing she is a permanent part of the family and is loved in every way possible.

Thank you, NorCal Golden Rescue for finding Emily for us, as she has brightened our lives immensely!
