I would like to share with you my feelings about how wonderful your society is and what a wonderful service you provide. We are "new parents!" We received our Golden on Saturday, May 25. His name was Rowdy, but he was anything but! He is an 18 month-old male and as cute as they come. Rowdy came to us at the absolute worse time in our lives! You see, on May 3, we lost our beloved dog of 12 1/2 years. On May 16, my beloved father-in-law was diagnosed with Lymphoma, cancer of the blood. We were told he had less than 6 months to live.
Several years prior, my father-in-law had owned a Golden of his own named "Scout." We got Rowdy on Saturday, as I mentioned, and took him to the hospital that day to see my father-in-law. Over the next few days, his condition worsened. We took him home with Hospice care on Tuesday, May 28. By now, we had changed the dog's name to "Scout". Dad arrived home at 1:30pm. Once settled in his hospital bed, I put the rail of his bed down and Scout went right over and laid his head down. My father-in-law, though extremely weak, reached over and patted him on the head and smiled. That was the last smile I saw from this dear man. He died the next day with his family and Scout surrounding him. We call Scout our "Angel Dog."
Once again today, June 25, Scout has been there when we really needed him. This morning our beloved dog of 16 years died. To have this beautiful Golden to come home to and hug is beyond words.
We have already asked to adopt another Golden! Thank you so much for doing this work! Thank you to Maureen McDannel, our local rep! Her compassion for these dogs makes the process so much more special!!
Thank you!
