NGRR Wag 'N Walk  September 11, 2010.Shadows Cliff Park in Pleasanton, CA  from 9AM-1PM

Please join us for a fun filled day including a two mile all breed dog walk with the entire family.  Spend with day with other adopted Goldens and their families as well as many NGRR volunteers who make our organization a success.  In remembrance of the anniversary of 9/11, we will be featuring a demonstration by the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation.  Their mission is to strengthen disaster response in America by recruiting rescued dogs and partnering them with firefighters and other first responders to find people buried alive in the wreckage of disasters. 

There will also be a parade of our alumni of rescued Goldens, t-shirts for all paid registrants and goodie bags for the dogs filled with lots of great toys and treats donated by our gracious sponsors.  We will also be having a silent auction and raffle baskets containing some wonderful prizes.  So bring your Golden, your family, friends and a nice picnic lunch and have a fantastic day in the park.  Click here for the flyer.

You can also sign up and pay the registration fee on line by going to our donations page, completely filling out the name and address fields, selecting Event Registration from "Donation Type" and entering the names of the participants in the "Any other comments field?" at bottom.  Fee is $20 per adult before Sept 4, and $25 after Sept 4.  Children are free. By signing up for the event on line you are agreeing to abide by the terms and conditions as set forth on the Registration Form.

HELP FIND THE CANCER CURE FOR DOGS

If you had a dog that died of cancer, you know how sad and powerless it made you feel. Fight back!!!  If you or someone you know has a dog with cancer of any kind, go the TGen website to find out how to submit a blood  sample.   They are seeking 2000 samples for  a hereditary DNA study . TGen will cover the cost of shipping and the blood analysis, plus will allow you $10 for the cost for the drawing the sample.   (However your vet may do it for free knowing it is going to research).

We have a team!  Please go to http://www.k9cancerwalk.org and choose Los Gatos.  Then click "Find a Team" and then choose the button for "Search for a team".   Enter "Golden Retrievers" and select "Golden Retrievers to the Rescue". This opens up our team home page.   In the box with the gray bar on top titled "Golden Retrievers to the Rescue  --Join  team"  are listed the current team members.  Click on the phrase "Join team" in the gray bar and  you will be taken to a series of registration pages for our team.

This event, which takes place during the lunch break, has always been a great success as it shows everyone present what great work our adoptive families have done with their dogs. There are a limited amount of spaces for this event so be sure to get your application in early.

GOLDIE'S STORY:   I NEED YOUR EYES

You've all heard about seeing eye dogs. I need a seeing eye person.

With my keen sense of smell and hearing I get along just fine. In fact I was on my own until NGRR heard that I was in a shelter in Mexico and going to be put down. I mothered ten puppies last year Thanks to Alaskan Airlines donating my free ride with them. I was flown to San Francisco and into the arms of a loving and patient NorCal foster family. I never knew that dogs get to sleep inside the house on a pillow and fed regularly with nutritional and tasty food..

That's amazing. Thanks to your donations in supporting NorCal I was able to get medical treatment and see an opthamologist but it's maybe too late to fix my eyes. We will have me re-checked in 3 months. I'm told I am handicapped but I don't feel that way. I get along fine in a home and love my walks. I walk around with a ball in my mouth with my tail wagging from side to side. I know if you met me, you would definitely find a spot in your heart to add me to your family. Watch for my upcoming updates on my new life here in the USA.

 Fosters are our most important people. Fosters take in surrendered dogs who need a safe home right away, they make sure vet visits and shots are done, and other wise care for the dog as if were their own while in their custody.  Our fosters are compassionate, giving people, willing to invest their time and talent to help a dog in need.
