I'm home!

Caesar came to us together with Saber on July 24th 1998, through Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue. After we lost our Golden Retriever Boomer after almost 13years, our “home” became just a “house” and it didn’t take us long to realize that we needed another Golden before we could start to heal after our great loss.

Due to our schedules two older dogs seemed to be the answer as they would be able to take care of themselves while we were at work. We found Caesar and Saber through I'll share.Norcal GRR’s web page and set up the initial meeting. Not me, Dad.I think it took us all of ten seconds to decide that we wanted both dogs, although both seemed to be at ease with us Caesar seemed a little more reserved, almost like we was interviewing us to see if we would give him the love he wanted. The day came when we went to the east bay to pick them up and while we were talking to Norcal’s agent and Caesar and Saber’s former owners, I suddenly noticed that they had both jumped into the truck! Saber in the front passenger seat and Caesar (Definitely Alpha) was sitting behind the steering wheel in the drivers seat!   Almost as if they were saying, “Okay let’s go”

I love you too.I remember putting Boomer’s old leash on Caesar the first time I took him for a walk and saying to him, “You have some big shoes to fill” Boy oh boy did he. I’m firmly convinced that Boomer sent our boys to us and I loved them both from the first time I saw them. Caesar was nine when he came to us and his back was a little weak, he loved to play ball and you could see him slow down each time I threw the ball for him to fetch. He always had a smile on his face and it didn’t mater how long we were away, five minutes or all day he was just as pleased to see us when we walked into the door.

Hi, Dad!We were only blessed with Caesar for eighteen months, after a year with us he was diagnosed with Cancer, and to think we took him to the vet because we thought he had a cough. They said he would not last more than four weeks, but they had no idea what a fighter he was! He fought the disease for six months before he finally lost, we spent his last night together, still hoping for a miracle, but it wasn’t to be, and we were all together when he left for the Rainbow Bridge. Now there is just the three of us I can see the pain of Caesar’s loss in both Dee’s and Saber’s faces and I know that it is in mine. But how can you explain to Saber that his lifelong pal won’t be there to play with him anymore? How do you get over seeing his face every time you pass his favorite place in the house, or see his toys or hear his name?

Are you coming? We were so lucky to have known Caesar, but the pain of his passing is difficult to bare, but I like to believe that Caesar and Boomer are together at the bridge waiting for us to join them. God bless you Caesar, thank you for all you did for us, you will always be loved and missed tremendously.
