On January 25, 2005, my beautiful Golden, Buster, comforted me as he journeyed softly to frolic at the Rainbow Bridge. Buster battled so courageously through lymphatic cancer that all who knew him continued, right up until the final day, to proclaim surprisingly, "He looks so happy; he's the same ole Busty.. It's like he's not even sick !!!" Buster did all he could to help ME through his ordeal and, finally, he just had no more to give. Buster was truly was a gift from heaven (and from NCGRR), and I'm so very thankful that I was able to share his wonderfulness during the second half of his life (Buster was 7 when we first met). Buster had that perpetual Golden grin and was loved by everyone he touched and all who couldn't resist touching him. He quickly became a sought after volunteer at a number of local golf tournaments in the Monterey Peninsula (with his own "Buster/Communications Specialist" ID badge), and all my new neighbors knew and loved Buster (even if they couldn't remember my name) . Friends and local merchants lined up with treats for Buster as we took our daily strolls through the neighborhood. It was always a crowd pleaser when (quite regularly) Buster would take his leash in his mouth, invite a human to grab the other end, and then lead him or her wherever Buster wanted to go. Isn't that just like a Golden? Time will pass, and the hurt hopefully will lessen, but there will always be a special place in my heart dedicated to the most sweet, loving, patient, and trusting friend one could ever imagine. Buster, I was so lucky to have met you. I don't know if any human can match a Golden's unconditional love, but please know that I tried to give back to you what you always gave to me. I look forward to making it to that Bridge someday so we can buddy up again. Until then be happy my friend.. With much love.... Hank Finkle |
