ONCE IN A LIFETIME

In memory of April

Once in a lifetime someone comes along and enters your life filling it with joy, happiness, wonder and completion. For me that someone was April and her sister May. From the first time I met these two it was magic that touched my inner feelings like never before and made my spirits soar.

Both approached me at are first meeting and introduced themselves in their own special way, a sniff,  a tail wag, a paw handshake and a look from those beautiful brown eyes that captured my heart in an instant and made me aware that we would be on a wonderful journey together. I can honestly say there was a bond made at that very moment. I will cherish the relationship forever.

April was my “little girl” who wanted love and attention from the start and made me stop and “smell the roses” and to see that life is very beautiful when you take the time to look at the simple beauty and goodness that nature provides you. She embodied the qualities of all that was pure, innocent, good and unique in a canine companion. Her love and devotion though out my time with her never cease to amaze me. As they say dogs give “unconditional love”, how true that was! No matter where I went or what I did she was my companion who followed me and I loved it and loved her for making me that “special person” in her life.

Whether it was quiet moments spent together waking up in the morning to daily walks that were done in a prancing motion with tails moving back and forth in perfect unison with her sister May to a good night ritual as the day came to a close, she dispensed magic and pleasure in my life that made even the most hectic and bad day seem bearable usually by a paw touch, look or animal sound.

Some of you commented when you met my girls, how well- behaved they were and what great dispositions they exhibited. Though I wish I could take all of the credit I must share that role with their previous owners Dave, Kathy and Bruce. They started them on the correct canine path to exceptional behavior and they received compliments where ever they went.

In the past several weeks a line from the song “Close to You”, sung by the Carpenters, keeps playing through my thoughts about April it states, “The Angels got together and decided to create a dream come true”. April you are that Angel to me. Thanks for being an integral part of my life and teaching me so many things about life and love by simply being who you were. You’re simply the best.

Though at this time my grief is intense and my sadness immense I hope it will diminish in the future to so that I can clearly appreciate all the remarkable things April was to me. Though we don’t understand why it had to happen, we are forced to accept it. May and I would first like to thank Arbor View Veterinary Clinic and U. C. Davis, Small Animal Clinic for their support, compassion and professionalism during our time of crisis. Additionally, we would like to thank all of you who have sent cards, gifts, flowers, made a donation to animals groups and condolences and words of support over the loss of our April.

We are eternally grateful and touched by your prayers and acts of kindness.
